Dr. Maher Farkouh

Dr. Maher Farkouh studied bassoon and musicology in Damascus.  After studying for a doctorate in Rostock in the music of the Syrian-Orthodox Church, he moved to Hanover, where he co-ordinated and led a programme about global music.  Now the 39-year-old is living with his wife and son in Dresden, where he is working as Diversity Manager at the Young Generation Theatre.  He also publishes his Arabic language podcast Ayam El-Lulu.  The contributions from the podcast arouse awareness of the role played by art and culture, through the experience of migration, in putting aside one’s own cultural stamp, internalised values, norms and behaviour patterns, in order to shape an individual cultural identity.
